ABOUT ME
My name is Meghan McGowan and I am a freshman at The Pennsylvania State University, University Park. I am 19 years old, and lived in Scranton, PA until I moved to State College. I am a graduate of Scranton High School where I graduated in the top 3% of my class. I am in the Division of Undergraduate Studies at Penn State, while I figure out what career I wish to pursue.
During high school, I was corresponding secretary of the National Honor Society, as well as being actively involved in Link Crew Freshmen Orientation as a member of the "A"-team, Spanish Club, and Orchestra, where I played the violin. I was a student ambassador to President Obama when he paid a visit to my school. I worked with Secret Service agents to check the badges of the people who would be closest to The President, and when his speech began, I was one of the few closest to him.
I played two years on the Junior Varsity Softball and Basketball teams, followed by two years on the Varsity Teams. Unassociated with school, I danced at the Julie Ardito School of Dance for twelve years, ballet and jazz. I was an active member at Divine Mercy Parish, where I participated in the Horizons Youth Group program for four years. I was a scholarship recipient of the Minooka Lions Club scholarship and the Thomas O'Donnell Award. I also received an award for softball. As you can see, I attempted to make the best of my high school career so I can make the best of my future.
In addition to all the above, I also managed a part-time job as CVS/Pharmacy as a cashier and photo technician. It was extremely difficult to juggle my busy life but somehow I was able to keep it together. I paid for a trip to Ireland for two weeks by myself, using the money I earned. It was the most rewarding experience of my life. To know that all the long hours finally paid off was amazing. It was the most exciting experience of my life so far. Long hours at work after an already long practice at softball or practice really pushed my patience. However, I kept my head up, and more importantly, my grades. I think being extremely involved in school and outside activities really prepared me for college and beyond.
Though I'm not sure which career or major to choose, I know that in whatever course I decide, I will do my very, very best. I am well-prepared for the real world and hope to continue my education after receiving my undergraduate degree. Thanks for stopping by for the inside scoop!
